Medicare Advantage (MAPD) plans are more expansive health care options that typically have extras like Dental/Vision plans, OTC, gym memberships, etc. Coverage usually will also include Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage as well as hospital, doctor, skilled nursing, and other medical services.
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) insurance, is sold by private companies, can help pay most of the health care costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover; like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Known for offering more Peace of Mind and Freedom of Choice.
Medicare Part D is the federal government's prescription drug program that covers both brand-name and generic prescription drugs at participating pharmacies in your area. Included with many Advantage plans and added to Medigap plans.
Dental, Vision and Hearing are just some of the common extra benefits with many plans. But there are also gym memberships, OTC allowance, grocery, utility allowances, transportation, etc.
If you are diagnosed with a covered illness like Cancer, Heart Attack, Stroke or Alzheimer’s disease, Critical Illness insurance typically pays a lump sum benefit. Additionaly, some policies may pay a monthly cash benefit. Can cover those costs not covered by Medicare.
Extra Supplemental insurance benefits can be used to pay for unexpected or uncovered out-of-pocket expenses. Copay/Cash Recovery or "Fill The Gaps" Plans. Examples include Hospital/ER, Accident, Lump Sum Critical Illness, Short Term / Home Health Care, etc.
